Spring Wardrobe Wishlist

As I’m writing this, it is cold and pouring rain outside. Not the kind of weather that puts you in a spring mood. However, I know underneath the thick mass of stratus clouds, the sun is somewhere just waiting to poke out and fill our lives with light and warmth.¬†At least I think it is. I hope it is. I could be wrong; I was never very good at science.

The Bookshelf Scavenger Hunt

Whenever I go to someone’s house, I always like to sneak a peek at their bookshelves. I’ve always thought that you could learn a lot about a person by what they read. Hopefully this video, along with the list below, will you tell you a little bit more about me! ūüėÉ

The TBR Pile | Starting At The Bottom

Years ago I would write my TBR list -that stands for To Be Read for any of you who don’t read too many book blogs. Don’t worry, I just discovered the acronym not too long ago – on a sheet a paper that I would then tack up on my wall as a reminder. Sometimes I can still feel a slight cramp in my writing hand when I think back to writing down every¬†single¬†book I wanted to read. Thank goodness I discovered Goodreads! Now my TBR pile is growing rapidly all with a simple click on the ol’ trackpad! It’s amazing how technology changes things. (:

Signs of Spring

Back in college, whenever I would come home for weekends, I always looked forward to taking an afternoon walk with my parents. It’s something my mom did on a regular basis and would usually end up convincing my father to tag along. We would walk in the woods and in the giant field beside our house. Sometimes I would fill them in on my studies, and other times, my mom would catch me up on everything that I missed. Sometimes we wouldn’t talk at all and just listened to the sounds of nature as we walked.

Sweet Dreams

She always dreams of satin pajamas and lace nighties instead of her worn-out yoga pants and college tee that she wears to bed every night. She wished she had a fairy godmother who could bibbidi-bobbidi-boo her into luxurious fabrics; then she could get a full night’s sleep while looking like a princess. Although no one would be looking at her while she slept, and if she were to awake and find that someone was, she’d be too terrified to worry about how she looked. And now, she was too scared to go to sleep in case there was a creeper lurking nearby just waiting for her to doze off. To get that thought out of her mind, she pulled up her favorite online shop and perused the site to satin pajamas. Her mind was able to relax as she scrolled through all the pretty pajama options and added them to her cart. She realized that she already had a fairy godmother. She was only a few feet away in her pocketbook in the form of an American Express card. No bibbidi-bobbidi-boo required. A simple CVV number and an expiration date would do the trick!

A Valentine’s Day Sonnet

Photo: Brigitte Tohm

If only Valentine’s Day happened thrice,

on the darkest, coldest days of winter

when your body is still frozen from the ice,

and you need permission to reenter

the glorious life you knew you once had.

May every kiss act as a reminder

that the good will always trump the bad.

May every sweet word whispered be kinder

than the one before, so when the ice cracks,

and you heart starts beating more and more,

you will recognize its rhythm and relax.

You have heard this melody before.

The bouquet of flowers is your lover’s vow.

He’ll always love you, especially now.
